About the Event
A documentary film that examines the trial of an undocumented immigrant, José Ines Garcia Zárate, for the accidental shooting of a young woman, Kate Steinle, in San Francisco in July of 2015. The incident ignited a political and media furor and gained national attention when Donald Trump exploited it for his anti-immigration platform. Two public defenders fought to counter the xenophobic narratives about the case and achieve justice for an innocent man. Stay after the film for a panel Q&A discussion featuring Matt Gonzalez, Chief Attorney for Zárate; Uziel Araiza Delgado of Laredo Immigrant Alliance; and Sister Rosemary Welsh of Mercy Ministries.
Admission is free, but we humbly suggest a $10 donation online, our Venmo @laredofilm, or cash at the door!Â
